BASIC FORMAT OF CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS AT
RYDER STUDIO SCHOOL

Workshops and programs at the Ryder Studio run six hours/day, five days a week, from two weeks to nine months. Drawing and painting demonstrations are scheduled for all or some of the morning sessions depending on the subject and duration of the program. Students draw or paint from the live model for the rest of the day. Students receive individual attention at their drawing boards or easels.
Maximum class size: 16.

In-depth training in drawing and painting from life.
Drawing: Manual, procedural and analytical techniques of long-pose pencil drawing as applied to the figure and the portrait.
Medium: Graphite pencil on white drawing paper.
Painting: "Form Painting," a traditional oil painting method. Techniques: color thumbnail, preliminary drawing on canvas or panel, under-painting, final paint layer (“form painting”).
Medium: Oil on canvas or panel.

2-Week Museum & Sightseeing Tour + 5-Day Portrait Drawing Workshop
Amsterdam & The Hague, Holland
Fourteen-day art tour/workshop including a 5-day portrait drawing class, plus visits to major museums in Amsterdam, The Hague, Delft and Haarlem, and sightseeing and sketching in a number of picturesque locations. The price for workshop participants covers workshop costs, accommodations, museum cards and guided museum tours, three class dinners, two canal cruises, and hired coach transportation for various class trips. The price for traveling companions covers all the above, minus workshop expenses. Every detail of the tour, including the selection of hotels and restaurants, has been carefully overseen by Emile P. Wiegand Bruss, the Ryder Studio tour director, resident of The Hague and professional tour guide with Trafalgar Tours (London).
